Did somebody say COOKIES?!

One of my favorite things about the month of January is the official start of Girl Scout Cookie season. This week, the Girl Scouts of the USA announced the kick off of the 2025 season, and here in Eastern Iowa, sales start on Friday, January 10th.

The Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois are gearing up for a busy couple of months filled with lots of orders and cookie booths. If you're wondering which cookies will be available in our area in 2025, the list includes:

  • Adventurefuls
  • Thin Mins
  • Samoas
  • Tagalongs
  • Do-si-dos
  • Trefoils
  • Lemon-Ups
  • S'mores
  • Toffee-tastic

There is some bad news, though. It was also revealed this week that the Girl Scouts will be discontinuing a new favorite after this season. The S'mores cookie, which is the sandwich cookie with chocolate and marshmallow filling, will not be including in the 2026 lineup. That means that they're likely going to be in HIGH demand this year, so be sure to place your order ahead of time.

The Toast-Yay! cookie is also being discontinued after 2025, but I don't remember ever seeing that one available in our area. They sound really good, though! They're "toast-shaped cookies full of French toast flavor and dipped in delicious icing." How do I get my hands on a box of those?!

There are a few different ways to purchase your Girl Scout Cookies. You can, of course, place an order with a local Girl Scout, you can wait until cookie booth season starts and visit one of those, or you can place an order online. Online orders have an additional shipping fee. You can get more information on that HERE. You can also sign-up for cookie updates via email or by texting 59618.

All flavors of cookies will cost $6 a box in 2025.

Iowans Name Their Favorite Small Town Restaurants

I asked Iowans on Facebook what their favorite small town Eastern Iowa restaurant is, and there were some great suggestions! According to Google, a town is considered "small" when it has 5,000 people or less. Our list includes restaurants in towns that have a population of 7,000 or less, and some of them have MUCH less! Here are 20 recommendations from folks in Eastern Iowa:
