When it comes to superheroes, the choices are virtually endless. From iconic figures like Superman and Wonder Woman to lesser-known yet equally significant characters such as Animal Man, Doctor Fate, Ragman, Dove, and Ambush Bug, there's a hero for every fan. While we're at it, they're action figures, not dolls.

In Iowa, the favorite superhero isn't necessarily one you'd expect for a landlocked state. Instead of a classic or geographically fitting choice, Iowans have a surprising favorite: Aquaman. According to Yahoo Money, Aquaman is far and away the top superhero among Iowans, a preference that seems to stem more from the star portraying him than the hero himself.

Aquaman, a character who first appeared in "More Fun Comics" #73 in November 1941, was created by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger. Over the decades, Aquaman has evolved into a major figure in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The 2018 film "Aquaman," starring Jason Momoa, became the highest-grossing DCEU film at the time of its release. Its sequel, "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom," continues to build on that success.

But what makes Aquaman particularly special to Iowans? The answer lies in the actor behind the trident—Jason Momoa. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Momoa spent part of his childhood in Norwalk, Iowa, where he attended Norwalk High School. This local connection has undoubtedly fostered a sense of pride and admiration among Iowa residents. Recently, Norwalk, Iowa, was recognized as the safest city in the entire state, adding another layer of local pride to Momoa's association with the area.

So while Aquaman might seem like an unconventional favorite for a landlocked state, the hero's popularity in Iowa can be attributed to the star power of Jason Momoa and the deep local connections that resonate with fans.
