An Iowa Restaurant Serves a Crab Rangoon Chicken Sandwich

Two delicious foods combined into ONE sandwich?! Count me in!

I recently came across an article on MSN courtesy of Business Insider that got my attention. The article outlines the best sandwich in all 50 states according to Yelp, and I was assuming that the pick for Iowa would be a Maid-Rite sandwich. I was wrong.

The pick for Iowa is actually from a place that I've never heard of before! It's called Charlotte's Kitchen, and it's located at 6150 Merle Hay Road in Johnston. The Johnston restaurant is the original location, but there is another one in Indianola, plus a food truck, AND a new restaurant coming to Altoona!

The sandwich recognized by Yelp is Charlotte's Kitchen's CRAB RANGOON CHICKEN SANDWICH. Yes, you read that correctly. It's a chicken sandwich (your choice of crispy or grilled), topped with lettuce, wonton strips, sweet chili sauce, and rangoon spread. You can also get the sandwich in the form of a wrap or a salad!

According to the restaurant's website, Charlotte's Kitchen got its start as a food truck in 2020, with owners Michael and Robert opening up their first brick-and-mortar location just one year later. The eatery got its name from Michael's grandmother, who taught him to cook at her house when he was a kid. He called the annual visits “Grandma Camps.”

Charlotte's Kitchen specializes in chicken sandwiches. In addition to the crab rangoon one, there is also an original, a Nashville hot, and a weekly special chicken sandwich. You can also get chicken tenders and something called the "Char's Bowl," which is fries OR mac & cheese topped with Char's Sauce, Nashville hot sauce, pickles, and chicken. Sides include cheese curds, loaded tots, brussels sprouts, and coleslaw. And, don't forget a milkshake for dessert!
