Who Has the Best Cheese Curds in Eastern Iowa? [PHOTOS]
Happy National Cheese Curd Day (October 15th)!
Back in 2015, the fast food chain Culver's decided to create a holiday dedicated to one of their most popular menu items, the beloved cheese curd. In honor of the important holiday, we are taking a look at some of the best cheese curds in Eastern Iowa.
Now, if we're talking fresh, un-fried cheese curds, some of my favorites are Dan + Debbie's Creamery in Ely, Frisian Farms in Leighton (a must-buy at the Cedar Rapids Downtown Farmers Market), and Hansen's Dairy in Hudson.
But, if we're talking FRIED cheese, the best curds I've ever had were from Boyd's Food Truck, which can be found in NE Iowa. I happened to be doing a remote broadcast up in the Waterloo area one day, and the truck was stationed in the parking lot. The curds were so delicious that I was genuinely sad that I couldn't finish them!
Of course, you can usually find some delicious cheese curds at local fairs and festivals, too. The ones I had at the Great Jones County Fair this summer were pretty bomb!
I asked Iowans on the Cedar Rapids Area Support Local Group on Facebook who they thought had the very best cheese curds in Eastern Iowa. Here are some of the responses:
- Blind Pig, Cedar Rapids/Monticello
- Dharma's Bar and Grill, Troy Mills
- Foundry Food + Tap, Coralville
- St. Burch Tavern, Iowa City
- Millstream Brau Haus, Amana
Sloppys Food Truck, Sandlot Spots, Cedar Rapids
- Tornado's Grub & Pub, Cedar Rapids
- Boulder Tap House, Cedar Rapids (chain restaurant)
- Kalona Brewing Company, Kalona
- Rock Bar, Cedar Rapids
- St. Olaf Tavern, St. Olaf
- Baxa's Sutliff Store And Tavern, Lisbon
