Fire crews attacked the fire from multiple spots in the home, which was inundated with very high heat and heavy smoke.

*According to the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, "Firefighters use(d) a hose line spray to create a draft inside the home to evacuate smoke."

Firefighters were able to determine that three adults and a minor were able to escape the blaze, along with a pet dog. It is believed that one person suffered smoke inhalation, but that is the only injury anyone sustained. No firefighters were injured.

The temperature at the time of the fire was about 10 degrees in Cedar Rapids, which caused a large amount of ice to accumulate. The Cedar Rapids Public Works Department brought road sand to the scene so firefighters would have better traction as they battled the blaze.
