Former Hawks Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin to Face Off Saturday
For four years they were teammates and the best of friends. Now, for the first time, Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin will suit up on opposite teams.
Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin are on very different basketball journeys. Clark was the #1 overall pick by the Indiana Fever. She and the team have struggled and have yet to win a game to start the WNBA season. Kate Martin was a second-round pick who fought hard and made the roster of the two-time defending WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces. Martin's new team has yet to lose this season.
While Clark is in the Fever starting lineup, Martin comes off the bench for a deep Las Vegas team. But despite not playing many minutes, she earned a new nickname. Known as 'The Glue' at Iowa, she is now known as 'Money Martin' in the WNBA. Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever will play in Las Vegas on Saturday evening at 8 p.m. The game can be seen on NBA TV.
While Martin might be the 12th player on a 12-player team, she isn't the only former Iowa great on the Las Vegas roster. Former Hawkeye All-American Megan Gustafson also plays for the Aces.
Gustafson got some great news this week. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that she and other Aces players will get a $100,000 bonus thanks to a deal with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. That is more than her current WNBA salary of $67,249. One thing is for sure. Las Vegas LOVES the Aces.
