- Home and Community Safety Rank - Rates of violent crime, homeless population, firefighters and police per capita, pedestrian fatalities
- Natural-Disaster Risk - Earthquake, flood, hurricane, tornado, wildfire risks
- Financial Safety Rank - Income, unemployment, foreclosure, poverty rates
Using that data, they have determined the Top 10 Safest Cities in America.
One city in Iowa landed in the top ten.
Cedar Rapids is seventh overall with its best ranking in Home and Community Safety (#10) and its worst in Financial Safety (#78).

- Casper, Wyoming
- Warwick, Rhode Island
- Burlington, Vermont
- Boise, Idaho
- Yonkers, New York
- Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Two other Tri-State cities landed in the Top 35.
In South Dakota, Sioux Falls is 22nd overall with its best ranking in Financial Safety (#23) and its worst in Natural-Distaster risk (#86).
In Minnesota, St. Paul is number 34 with a best 44 ranking in Natural-Disaster risk and a worst 51 in Home and Community Safety.
The North Star State's capital city is tied for third nationally with the highest percentage of households with emergency savings.
