Why I Gave Up My Iowa Basketball Season Tickets
All the talk recently has been about the declining season ticket sales for Iowa football. It's gotten so bad that the U of I is offering season ticket packages to full-time Kirkwood students.
I've never had football season tickets, but I was a basketball season ticket holder for two years. The renewal form came in the mail about a week ago. I gave them up this year.
Why?
Well, in addition to the $370 plus tax for the actual tickets, Iowa requires a $200 contribution to the I-Club. So, that's more than $600 (when you include tax) for basketball season tickets.
I sat in row 32. So, uh, that's not a great value.
I'll buy single-game tickets this year and probably wind up going to more games, but I refuse to get screwed on season tickets. If the University of Iowa is disappointed that fans would rather sit at home or at a bar to watch games, maybe they should stop pricing the average fan out of the market.
