Where Do You Take Someone on Their First Visit to the Corridor

Help me, Eastern Iowa! I have friends coming to visit today, and I don't know what to do. I just moved to Iowa in June, and, to be honest, I haven't gotten out and seen a lot.

You see, my girlfriend is a grad student at the University and she has a 3-year-old son whom I help raise. As any parent of a toddler knows, they are a lot of work, and routine is key, so we don't get out and do a lot of things. That combined with the fact that we just moved here and literally know nothing or no one, we don't go anywhere. Here's where I need your help.

Today, one of my best friends in the entire world is coming in to visit over a long weekend. It's her, her daughter, and her daughter's boyfriend coming, and the only thing I know to show them is the Coralville Hy-Vee, Costco's covered parking lot, and the last of the sweet corn crop. That's...that's pretty much it.

What do we do, Iowa? I ask you! When people who have never been here come visit you, where do you take them? I'm up for any suggestions! Night spots, restaurants, family fun stuff, anything... I like cheap/free, and as local as possible. I have an Applebee's back home....and I don't eat it there....so yeah.
