A Waterloo firefighter was killed in a Tuesday afternoon accident on a busy Waterloo city street.

Waterloo firefighter Greg Freshwater has been killed in a vehicle-pedestrian accident in Waterloo. Freshwater was out for a run just before 4 p.m. Tuesday when he tried to cross the road at the intersection of Ansborough Ave. and West Shaulis Rd. It was then he was struck by a Subaru Forester, in an area with a speed limit of 45 miles-per-hour. According to KWWL, police don't believe he saw the vehicle.

Freshwater had a degree in fire science and was studying emergency medical services/paramedic at Hawkeye Community College. He was 27.
