Vinton Considers Purchasing School for Blind for a Buck

The Iowa College for the Blind opened in 1852 with high hopes of supporting blind inidividuals in the community. It was a completey different world back then, but the need is still prevelant in the school today. Though the doors have been closed since 2011, the building has served as a sanctuary of learning for many people for over 159 years. Now, it stands in turmoil. With over 1 million dollars needed in renevation and repairs, the school is looking to sell to Vinton for the price of $1.

"We will talk with the board of regents, the Americorps, the state legislature and city council and have a collective meeting with all those folks to see where we stand and what positions we'd like to address" - Mayor John Waterson
