Major League Baseball's 2015 All-Star Game was played in Cincinnati Tuesday night. Fitting then that a Reds player won the Home Run Derby on Monday night in front of his loud, supportive fans. Reds third baseman Todd Frazier is the champ, conquering the new derby format in dramatic fashion.

This year's derby was different. This was an eight-player single-elimination bracket with each player getting 4-minute timed rounds. In addition, players could take one timeout per round and earn 30 extra seconds if they hit two homers over 425 feet. Obviously, the importance of the pitchers is dramatically increased in this format. In the past, players could simply not swing at a ball they didn't like. Now they were working against the clock. To make it even more special, pitching to Frazier on Monday night was his brother, Charlie.

The American League defeated the National League, 6-3 on Tuesday night. The All-Star Game, once purely an exhibition, now counts for something. By winning the game, the American League will get home field advantage in this fall's World Series. The regular season resumes on Friday.
