To be fair, lots of people who were around in 1994 had embarrassing haircuts. But Weezer leader Rivers Cuomo's hair in this week's throwback video goes above and beyond. It looks more like a haircut from 1974 as opposed to 1994, and the style of glasses only adds to the overall theme. But don't take our word for it -- check out Weezer's performance of 'Undone -- The Sweater Song' from 1994 in the video above.

Of course, none of this matters now, nor did it really matter then. Cuomo's chili-bowl hairstyle notwithstanding, Weezer has gone on to become one of the biggest rock bands of our time. 'Undone - The Sweater Song' was a big hit when it came out, and it opened the door for 'Buddy Holly' and 'Say It Ain't So.' The band's debut album also paved the way for 'Pinkerton,' which, despite its initial commercial failure, cemented Weezer's position among rock royalty.

It didn't take long for Cuomo to ditch the 'Bad News Bears' hairdo and Coke-bottle specs. By the time 'Say It Ain't So' came out, Rivers had adopted an early form of the inoffensive mop he still rocks today. Check it out as Weezer rock the tune on 'Letterman' in '95 in the video below.

Another noteworthy item in the 'Say It Ain't So' performance is the bassist, Matt Sharp. He was known for his high-energy antics, which seem maybe a little over-enthusiastic here. But he does look like he was having fun at the time, so who are we to knock him? Sharp, of course, would leave Weezer to concentrate on his own band, the Rentals.
