It won't be long before the new University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital starts housing patients. Over the weekend, it began hosting open houses. Those who entered were among the first to see the inside of the $360 million project.

The tallest building in Iowa City is also the most important. The state of the art facility will allow doctors to treat children suffering from cancer and a variety of other diseases. Many marveled at the interior of the building, and of course, that view inside of nearby Kinnick Stadium.

Over the past four years, I've watched this massive building go from blue print to reality. Each year that we've done our radiothon in Iowa City, we'd get a progress report letting us know how far along they were. We got tours of mock hospital rooms to show how important every detail was. Now, it's almost open. The hospital will begin seeing patients on December 10th. It will also host our 21st radiothon in the fall on 2017.
