The Red Cross is running into a summer shortage of blood and platelet donations and is reaching out to the community for help. An event was held on Monday to help surge donations and save lives throughout Iowa and the rest of the country.

Beyond blood, platelets are also a crucial part of saving lives. They are used to treat cancer patients, burn victims and bone marrow recipients. If you are 17 or older and are above 110 lbs., you can help donate. Learn more about donating locally right here.
