In a preseason game yesterday, Packer star wide receiver Jordy Nelson suffered a torn ACL. No more football for him this season. Fresh off a 4-year $39 million contract extension, he was no doubt jacked up for a big season catching the darts that Aaron Rogers serves up in Green Bay.

Nelson's QB was obviously downtrodden after the game. He hated to see his star receiver go down in a "meaningless game."

I think the NFL needs to cut the games in half to a total of two. That doesn't mean you have to tack on two more games in the regular season. More practice and conditioning could take the place of the two preseason games. Or, split the difference and have 17 regular season games.

Injuries can happen in practice too, but when you have fresh meat linebackers trying to make an NFL roster, they are going full blast in preseason. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will probably have an easier season in the public reletions realm this season. He should kick off the regular season  with a new policy of fewer preseason games in 2016.
