Here in Iowa, we are generating lots of wind energy. A Wikipedia search shows 27% of the state's energy output originating from wind. That puts us in third place nationally, behind only California and Texas. Those two states are the 2nd and 3rd largest. We're #26 in size. Pretty good, huh?

While the I-35 North-Central region has the most wind power turbines, the Kirkwood location here in Cedar Rapids is the one we see the most 'round here.

Each blade weighs 30,000 pounds. The college sold the power generation to Alliant and makes $300,000 annually from it's output. As that operation enters it's fourth year of operation on the south side of campus, I took in a brisk breeze of my own while relaying more interesting facts...

Just after it was built, Kirkwood students had a look around...

Luckily we have a good group of DJ's here at Townsquare Media Cedar Rapids who provide plenty of on-air wind each day. Those blades will spin nicely for a long, long time.
