Well, this certainly seems like a mean thing to do.

Someone has found a way to cripple a user's iPhone by sending a text message with a  series of Arabic characters:

The quirk in the phone was first revealed by a Reddit user on Tuesday (May 26). According to The Verge:

Users who receive the string with Messages open won't be able to go back to other conversations without crashing the app, while users who get the string on their lock screen won't be able to open the Messages app entirely.

Gizmodo, meanwhile, reports you can undo the damage when a new message comes within the same thread, which means the person who crashes your phone has the power to start it up again.

Apple says it is working on repairing the problem. While we wait, here's hoping none of your prankster friends tries this on you.
