The Chicago Bears defeated the Oakland Raiders on Sunday (10/4), 22-20. It was the first victory of the season for the Bears, improving their record to 1-3. In what's become a familiar storyline, Jay Cutler threw a costly interception late in the game that led to a Raiders go-ahead field goal. What wasn't so familiar was Cutler's ability to overcome the mistake and lead the Bears to victory on the final drive of the game.

Cutler has been the target of a ton of scrutiny during his seven seasons with the Bears. The 32 year-old QB has led the Bears to the playoffs only once during his tenure. Fans expect more out of a guy that gets paid as handsomely as Cutler. It's a team game, but, right or wrong, Cutler shoulders a lot of blame for the Bears lack of success over the past several seasons.

Bears fans probably aren't a whole lot different than most fans. However, some of the attacks on Cutler do seem to be a bit over the top. There's a t-shirt out there with a picture of Cutler holding a gun to his head. The shirt's caption states: "I Bet He Misses". In 2010, Cutler left the NFC Championship Game in the 3rd Quarter. Fans were incensed, thinking Cutler had quit on his team at such a crucial moment. Many disliked his demeanor on the sidelines and thought he should've toughed it out. It was proven a day later that he had sprained his MCL.

After Sunday's game, tight end Martellus Bennett came to Cutler's defense with, perhaps, the quote of the year. "They threw rocks at Jesus, and Jesus was an excellent guy who did a lot of awesome stuff," Bennett told Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times.
