Taxi or Uber?

When it's time for a ride home or a trip out, what do you do?

Call a taxi?

Request an Uber?

Uber -- the transportation network company that allows you to download their app and request rides from local drivers -- has started to take off in Cedar Rapids. The number of people requesting an Uber has been on the rise, and there are a lot more Uber drivers on the roads now.

The great thing about Uber is that the entire transaction is handled upfront. There is no worrying about a running meter or figuring out the correct tip. You simply check the current rate, request the ride, and receive a receipt in your inbox after the trip. Pretty easy.

The customer service is also good. I've taken a few Uber rides in Cedar Rapids and the drivers have been nice and hospitable. That's something you don't always get from cabbies.

And while I still have a soft spot in my heart for cab drivers, I have to admit that I'm turning to Uber more often for rides.
