Recent road construction around Bowman Woods Elementary led to the installation of speed bumps [or "Hump De Bumps" if you are into the Chili Peppers] on Brentwood Dr. NE. in Cedar Rapids. The added traffic flow on that street necessitated the need. While I love that little shortcut to C Ave. and don't like my stop sign/light clogged commute to take any longer than it already does, this is a smart move.

The construction was completed just in time for the opening of the school in August. Two months later, they are still in place. Property owners along Brentwood are probably happy they are. "Collector Streets" are those that are designed to take in a large volume of traffic. Shortcuts aren't made for this kind of volume. Boyson wasn't designed to be a Collector either, but that's a different blog for another day.

Brentwood is curved and has a big hill in the middle. Dangerous to drive anything over 25 on that street. I remember a Marion City Council meeting I attended a few years ago. The newly-built subdivision surrounding Hunter's Ridge was getting increased traffic flow, especially on Winslow Rd. A resident made an appeal to lower the speed limit. He won. Power to the people!
