Smashing Pumpkins Debut New Single, ‘Being Beige,’ From ‘Monuments to an Elegy’

Today is the greatest day (this week, at least) for Smashing Pumpkins fans.

The band have premiered 'Being Beige,' the first new music from their upcoming full-length, 'Monuments to an Elegy,' produced by 'Adore' collaborator Howard Willing, frontman Billy Corgan and guitarist Jeff Schroeder. It was also mixed by David Bottrill and mastered by Howie Weinberg, both of whom worked on the classic Pumpkins albums of the '90s. Oh, and the album features drumming by Motley Crue's Tommy Lee.

The album continues 'Teagarden by Kaleidoscope,' the 'super-album' that began with 2010's 'Songs for a Sailor,' continued with 2012's 'Oceania' and will conclude with 2015's 'Day for Night.'

'Being Beige' starts out sparse with acoustic guitar, frontman Billy Corgan's soft-spoken vocals and a drum machine before cascading into a suitably majestic Smashing Pumpkins chorus. "People always ask me to explain songs, and honestly I can't," Corgan told Rolling Stone. "But if there's honesty in this lyric, it's that there's something amiss in our cosmos. Yet still, we must love."
