Well, 3 state teams in the "big dance" can be considered a success to some degree. Iowa, Iowa State and UNI knew their names were going to be called on "Selection Sunday"... they were just waiting for their assignments. Where and who will they be playing? Well, the answers to those questions are here.

  • The Hawkeyes are the No. 7 seed in the South region. They will face No. 10-seeded Temple at approximately 2:10 p.m. Friday in Brooklyn, N.Y.
  • The Cyclones are a No. 4 seed in the Midwest region. They will play their first-round game against Iona at 1 p.m. Thursday in Denver.
  • The Panthers were selected as a No. 11 seed and will face Texas at approximately 8:50 p.m. Friday in Oklahoma City.

Both Iowa and Iowa State accomplished rankings in the Top 10 earlier in the season.  However, both teams struggled greatly down the stretch.  The Cyclones (21-11) went 5-7 in their final 12 games.  Iowa has looked even worse, losing 6 out of their last 8 (21-10).  UNI (22-12), on the other hand, has won 6 in a row and won the Missouri Valley Conference tournament.
