Scott Weiland Died From a 'Toxic Mix of Drugs'

Scott Weiland’s cause of death has been determined as an accidental overdose.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office in Minneapolis revealed Weiland died from a toxic mix of drugs that included cocaine, ethanol and MDA. The examiner also reported Weiland’s history of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, asthma and multi-substance dependence played a role.

The former Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver leader was found dead on his bus on Dec. 3 in Bloomington, Minn. He was on tour with his backing band the Wildabouts at the time. The examiner’s office determined the time of death was 8:27PM. Weiland was 48.

Police searched the tour bus and uncovered a small quantity of cocaine in Weiland’s room. The same substance was found in Wildabouts bassist Tommy Black’s room. He was arrested for drug possession and released the next day.

After news of Weiland's death broke, family, friends and former bandmates expressed their sympathies. Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Revolver and Billy Corgan all wrote moving letters in memory of Weiland, while Chris Cornell dedicated Temple of the Dog's "Say Hello 2 Heaven" to the late singer. Weiland's ex-wife, however, asked fans to not "glorify this tragedy."
