This poor girl has been through hell and needs your help!

Over the weekend, Dogs Forever in Cedar Rapids welcomed some new dogs to their rescue. One of those pups is a sweet girl named Jayla.

Jayla is a 1.5 year old boxer mix with a pretty traumatic history. She was a stray that was discovered in Texas after a "terrible altercation" with a porcupine. According to a recent Facebook post from Dogs Forever, "they removed over 50 quills from around her mouth, and they had to pull one out of her eye. She was not in great shape."

In addition to the injuries from the porcupine, Jayla was also discovered to have a tumor on her spleen. The good news is that the tumor turned out to be benign and was removed successfully, along with her spleen. Unfortunately, Jayla also tested heartworm positive, which means that her recovery journey isn't over yet.

Dogs Forever posted about Jayla on social media because she is in need of help. The first priority is finding her a foster home where she can receive her heartworm treatment. It has to be a quiet home with no other pets, as well as a fenced-in yard. According to the post, heartworm treatment can take anywhere from 3 to 6 months and requires a calm environment. The post says:

"We will pay for everything from food to toys to treats to all of her medical treatment. We just need you to give her a quiet safe space."

To apply to be Jayla's foster home, you can fill out an application HERE.

If you're not able to offer Jayla a foster home, you can also help by making a donation to her medical care! The heartworm treatment is around $2,000, so any amount you can contribute is appreciated. Here are some of the different ways you can donate:

  • Venmo: DogsForeverRescue (confirmation number is 3501)
  • Mail a Check: 809 Rockford Road Southwest, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 52404
  • Facebook
  • Dogs Forever Website

However you choose to donate, please make a note that the donation is for Jayla! We will be sure to keep you updated on her story as she continues to help.
