Oh, the woes of the soda pop companies. There's been a palpable shift in consumer tastes when it comes to sweetened drinks. People want healthier beverages, and those with natural ingredients.
I like the surge in "real sugar" sodas and now it looks like the race is on to take another shot at "less sugar" concoctions. This concept has been tried before. Now it's back with a new ingredient thrown into the mix.
Pepsi is releasing "Pepsi True" and Coke is readying "Coca-Cola Life."
Both use Stevia, a plant native to Paraguay as it's primary sweetener. Maybe someday Iowa scientists will figure out how to sweete soda with dandelions. Or, maybe power vehicles with that hated yellow bloom. We've a bumper crop every May.
