The Panthers are on the prowl...into rarefied air: #11 in the weekly AP Men's College Basketball poll. UNI has been crushing opponents all season and now stand at 24-2 on the season. With just a couple of regular season games left, they should have a nice seed in the NCAA Tournament.

The Panthers have appeared in the AP poll a record nine times this season. Previously, they'd been ranked a total of just seven times prior to this 2014-15 campaign.

Iowa State (18-6) remained at No. 14. Meantime, the Iowa Hawkeyes lost an overtime game to lowly Northwestern and await a Thursday game vs. lowly Rutgers. Even with a pretty good showing overall this season, the Hawks appear to be the bottom feeders in the state.

Imagine if we could combine these three schools. For a state with the 30th highest population in the U.S., we are stacked with great college basketball players. When I become governor, I will work on consolidation.

UNI plays Wichita State later this week and ESPN will carry the game. The Panthers and Clones are big timers whom the networks want to give national exposure. They deserve it. Look for at least one of them to go deep in the tourney. And, don't count out the Hawkeyes. Even with their inconsistencies, it's all about who gets hot in the post season.
