Following a disappointing 20-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals earlier in the afternoon, the Green Bay Packers have fired long time coach Mike McCarthy.

It wasn’t completely unexpected. The 2018 season so far has been disappointing for the Packers, with a record of 4-7-1.

Packers fans may not have been surprised by the fact that McCarthy was released, but just before Christmas? Why not just let him finish out the season?

McCarthy, as head coach won the Super Bowl title in 2010 when the Packers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl 55.

He’s been with the team for over a decade, but it looks like luck has run out in his 13th season.

McCarthy has a record of 125 wins, 77 losses, 2 ties and has managed the Packers to nine years of playoffs.

Offensive coordinator Joe Philbin will take over as interim coach for the Packers while the team begins its search for McCarthy‘s replacement.
