Black Hawk County officials are hoping the Jake Wilson tragedy can bring some good to the community. That is why they are launching the Jake Wilson initiative.

Its been a week since authorities confirmed that remains found in Wolf Creek were those of the missing La Porte City teenager. Wilson went missing after going on a walk in April. If you have a family member that suffers from autism or dementia or any other medical condition that causes them to wander, there are devices available that can keep track of them and help find them if they should go missing.

Sheriffs officials say that those devices are being brought into Black Hawk County following the news of Jake's death. On September 18th there will be a wandering and safety event at the Waterloo Fire Station headquarters. The event is open to anyone who wants to attend. At the meeting, you can learn more about devices like Project Lifesaver. It is a bracelet or anklet that can track a person if they wander off and go missing.

Organizers say that they hope they can bring some good to the area that has been through so much.
