A Johnson County man was arrested Monday night on four counts of attempted murder and four counts of solicitation to commit murder.

Justin Lee DeWitt, 36, of 110 Whitman Ave. in North Liberty was arrested at approximately 7:15 Monday night. According to a release from the North Liberty Police Department, DeWitt allegedly tried to hire an undercover state agent to murder a business associate and his family. The release states DeWitt offered money to the agent to do so.

DeWitt faces a Class B felony with a maximum penalty of 25 years for each count of attempt to commit murder. He also faces four counts of solicitation of another to commit murder. Each of those counts is a Class C felony with a maximum penalty of up to 10 years and/or a $10,000 fine.

A number of law enforcement agencies are involved in the investigation, including the North Liberty Police Department, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, the Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Division, the Johnson County Drug Task Force, and the Johnson County Attorney's Office.
