We love it when athletes give up money for the good of the team.  Tom Brady has done that again, freeing up some 24 million dollars the Patriots can use next season on other players.  But make no mistake, either through bonuses or other salary structures, Brady will be compensated for the money he "gives up".  Buffalo Bills quarterback Kyle Orton walked away from millions of dollars this week too, but for a different reason.

Orton, who played high school football in Iowa before starring at Purdue, has decided to retire after 10 seasons in the NFL.  The reason?  Here is what Orton told the Bill's official website.

I just have been going at it for 10 years and its just a family decision and I've decided to get home and be a dad and call it a day.

Orton had another year on his contract worth 5.4 million dollars, and was in line to be the starter next year on a decent Bills team.  Some say it's a ploy to get out of his contract with Buffalo so he can sign somewhere else.  I'm hoping that it's what Orton says it is.  I hope he's made and saved his millions, and now wants to spend time with his family.  Sounds like a winning plan in my book.
