A plan to expand the existing Marion Library building and turn it into a multi-use building has been abandoned, and land for a new library is being looked for. The Marion Public Library board along with Ryan Companies presented the updated plan to the Marion city council last week.

At the council meeting, the group said that it was pursuing land in uptown Marion and that the bidding process was underway. The new proposed library space would be around 44,000 square feet at a cost of nearly $12 million.

The board hopes to get all of this information out to voters soon, as they finalize details on a total cost. Under a bond referendum, voters would have to agree to extra taxes to pay for the project.
