According to KWWL, The popular Maquoketa Caves State Park will be closed for the summer due to construction."

The Maquoketa Caves are a big tourist attraction for a lot of us here in Eastern Iowa. Besides the locals, tourists travel from all over the Midwest to check out this Iowa attraction. According to the Iowa DNR, the reason for the closing is due to some electrical upgrades and road construction.

The KWWL story noted the park is closed now and won't reopen until August 24th, 2018. The campground will also be closed until August 30th.

The last time the caves were shut down was back in 2010 and 2011. The closing was due to a white noise syndrome affecting bats in the caves. The park opened back up in 2012.
