You could call Modest Mouse the forefathers of indie rock. They've been active since 1993 and they were one of the first bands to bring their particular sound to the masses.

Fans of the band were probably getting anxious for new music from the group -- they hadn't released an album since 2007's We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank. Well, fans got their prayers answered this year with the release of Strangers to Ourselves. The guys are still with Epic Records, they've been on a major label since 2000, but this album definitely retains the indie influence.

My favorite track by far, which we recently started playing on-air, is "The Ground Walks, with Time in a Box." This tune is vintage MM -- high-paced, quirky, and absolutely infectious. It also has a tinge of a grimy, sinister sound. It's good stuff.
