With the snow that's arriving the next several days, you may need to find a new spot to get your vehicle troubles fixed if they arise downtown.

We have learned that after nearly 30 years in operation, a downtown automotive company will be closing its doors, effective 5 p.m. today, Thursday, December 28.

The good news for many of the regular customers and employees at Downtown Tire Company, located at 402 2nd Ave. SE in Cedar Rapids is that they already have a new home. Blairs Ferry Tire & Auto, which operates at 4009 Blairs Ferry Rd. NE, will take the place of the downtown shop. There are also multiple other Goodyear dealers and service locations in the Cedar Rapids area.

This comes on the heels of the news earlier this month that Sub City and Albert Auto, two other downtown staples, would have to close or relocate. Sub City has already shut down, while Albert Auto expects to continue in its current location, 427 1st Ave. SE,  through mid-February, before moving elsewhere.

We wish the employees of Downtown Tire the best in their move to a new location and their future with the company.
