The US Cellular Center has returned to prominence as a great entertainment venue in Cedar Rapids.  The Five Seasons Center, as it was originally known, is a special place for me.  It was where I saw my first ever concert – KISS’s “Hot in the Shade Tour”, May 23, 1990.  I saw KISS there a second time in 1998 on their “Psycho Circus Tour”.  I’ve also seen Tool there twice (2001 & 2007), plus Linkin Park (2001) and Green Day (2005).  With a capacity of around 8,600 for concerts, there’s not a bad seat in the house.  I’ve seen a couple Titans games and took the kid to Cirque Du Soleil this past fall.  The Cell survived the 2008 flood, got a fancy makeover, and is now better than ever.

The original construction started on the Five Seasons Center in 1977.  The venue opened in 1979.  We all remember it closing down in 2011 for renovations.  To see it now is really incredible.  It re-opened in 2013, complete with the new convention complex and renovations to the hotel.  It’s a great centerpiece to a downtown that took a hell of a punch.  Whether it’s a family outing or a trip to a concert or sporting event with some friends, there’s something for everybody at the US Celluar Center.
