Local Ice Cream Store Continues It’s Delicious Tradition
Nelson’s Ice Cream has been a Cedar Rapids tradition since 1935. Chances are if you’re from here, you’ve got a favorite flavor of Nelson’s – and a memory or two that goes along with it.
Nelson’s has a colorful history in Cedar Rapids with a very popular Meat Market and Deli located on Old Marion Road. The store has been a popular lunchtime hangout for many locals for years and serves up delicious sandwiches, soups, and salads. They also serve up a serious ice cream cone that’s become so popular that expansion was necessary.
The Nelson’s Ice Cream Shop, at 1100 3rd St. in the NewBo City Market district, is a relative newcomer to the local retailer’s scene. It’s a tasty addition to the area and is a popular destination for obvious reasons.
Nelson’s creative ice cream flavors have a local flair. Mt.Trashmore gets its name from the nearby landfill, thus the little ‘extras’ found in the ice cream look like bits of junk!
Another silly and fun flavor that kids love to order is “Unicorn Poop”!
If you’re celebrating a birthday, you may want to try an ice cream cake!
Whether it’s a single scoop cone, or a pint to take home, be sure to treat yourself to a hometown favorite this summer. A stop at Nelson’s Ice Cream is pure Cedar Rapids fun!
