U.S. Highway 30 was closed in both directions between highway 151 and highway 1 after a deadly crash involving three vehicles. The Linn County Sheriff's Office confirmed the accident happened around 4:40 p.m Thursday on Highway 30 just west of 10th avenue in Mt. Vernon.

Officials say 49-year-old Curtis Rawson of Mt. Vernon was driving east on Highway 30 when his pickup crossed the center line, striking a Pontiac Grand Prix and a pickup. Authorities now confirm that 70-year-old John Stevan Kerr from Lisbon, the occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Rawson was flown to The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with what authorities said are non-life threatening injuries. A driver and a passenger in the pickup truck were not seriously injured.

The crash closed Highway 30 for nearly 3 hours Thursday evening. Officials are continuing their investigation.
