Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds will continue to call Des Moines home. Reynolds edged out Democratic challenger Fred Hubbell in the race for Iowa governor Tuesday. She won the race with around 50% of the vote compared to Hubbell's 47%.

Reynolds becomes the first woman elected to serve as the state's governor. She took over the office in 2017 after then-governor Terry Branstad was chosen as the new U.S. ambassador to China. She became his lieutenant governor in 2011. Before that, Reynolds served as a county treasurer and state senator.

While campaigning, Reynolds often touted Iowa's new tax reform law and how it benefits the state. The legislation which was passed in 2017 is the largest state income tax reduction in history.

Polls showed the race to be tight in the days leading up to election day. The last Des Moines Register poll showed Hubbell with around a 2 point lead, which was still well within the margin of error. Adam Gregg will continue to serve as lieutenant governor.
