Summer is over, so that means it's time for hockey! The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders open their season this weekend with a home game Saturday night. The Riders will battle Dubuque at The Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.

If you've never been to a RoughRider game, try and get to the arena this weekend. The games are high-paced with a lot of action. The atmosphere is electric and you will see some of the most competitive hockey in the Midwest.

The best part of this Cedar Rapids entertainment option is the price. It won't cost you an arm and a leg to take a family of four. Tickets, soda and beer are all reasonably priced. It seems like if you want to attend a sporting event anymore, you need to take out a loan. That's not the case at a RoughRider game.

When you attend a game, it's much more than hockey. Before the game, there is a full multimedia presentation with great music and video clips. This is the kind of show you would see at an NHL game. During the game, the fun continues with in-game promotions, dancing contests and much more.

I do need to warn you: THE FANS IN CEDAR RAPIDS TAKE HOCKEY VERY SERIOUSLY. Don't stand up during the game. If you need to use the bathroom or get another beer, wait until there is a stoppage in play. I found that out the hard way....don't make the same mistake.

The games are played at 1100 Rockford Road SW in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. For more information, visit ridertownusa.com. You can also call them at (319) 398-0100.

Even if you don't love hockey, you're gonna have a good time at a RoughRider game. Grab a beer and enjoy the fight. And if you're lucky, a hockey game might break out.
