According to a new study, Iowa drivers get pretty intense during the holiday season!

The app GasBuddy recently looked at a ton of driving data in the U.S. during the 2018 Thanksgiving holiday week. They found that driving habits during the holidays are 175% more aggressive than any other time of year. The most common aggressive driving habits include hard-braking (56%), speeding (25%), and acceleration (19%).

Iowa did NOT make the top 10 when it comes to states with the most aggressive drivers, but we did make the top 20. Oops! We came in at number 17 on the list, with an average of 8.9 aggressive events per driver.

Why is aggressive driving bad? The article states:

"'Not only is aggressive driving dangerous but it is the quickest way to lower gas mileage by as much as 40 percent.'"

I do a lot of driving during the holiday season because I travel to Michigan to spend time with my family. I usually start my 8-hour drive feeling pretty mellow, but those last two hours I become a road demon. It's not something I'm proud of, but my patience starts to run out during that evening rush hour!

Be safe out on the roads this season!
