When you see the list of the 10 best steakhouses in America, one thing stands out. They're all from major cities. Except the one from Iowa, that's been around for generations.

Just LOOK at the list of cities in the top 10:

  • Tampa, Florida: Bern's
  • Dallas, Texas: Pappas Bros.
  • Brooklyn, New York: Peter Luger
  • Chicago, Illinois: Bavette's Bar and Boeuf
  • New York, New York: Keens
  • Las Vegas, Nevada: Carnevino
  • Los Angeles, California: Cut
  • Indianapolis, Indiana: St. Elmo
  • Oklahoma City, Oklahoma: Cattlemen's Steakhouse
  • Le Mars, Iowa: Archie's Waeside

It's like which one of these does not belong with the others? Obviously in city size that would be Le Mars. However, that's only if you've never asked anyone who's eaten at Archie’s Waeside. Just look at some of the love shared via Instagram.

All these years, you probably thought all they made in Le Mars was Wells Blue Bunny Ice Cream. While delectable, obviously that's wrong. Archie's Waeside has been serving customers in the northwest Iowa community since 1949.

PureWow's list of the 10 Best Steakhouses in America describes Archie's this way, "... has beef straight from the heartland, seafood flown in daily, a James Beard Award-winning wine list and a homey family feel that you can’t manufacture (the restaurant’s original owner still lives on site)."

Steak lovers it's time for a road trip, but I must warn you. According to their website, Archie's Wayside will be closed July 3 through 25. Why? They're going on vacation. That's just another reason to love this place and the fact they're hanging with the big dogs of America's largest cities. Well done Archie's Wayside, well done.
