According to WHO-TV, "A longtime Des Moines sports radio personality was killed Saturday night when he was swept from his van during flash flooding."

The victim was 65-year-old Larry Cotlar. Mr. Cotlar is a household name in the Des Moines Area. He's been broadcasting sports in the state since 1974. Cotlar has hosted numerous radio and television shows, and was also the voice of the Drake Bulldogs. Cotlar also served the community helping numerous non-profit groups over the years.

The incident happened at 8:50 p.m. on Saturday night in Des Moines. The van he was driving stalled in high water at 50th and Twana Drive. The vehicle was swept away, and Mr Cotlar died.

The WHO-TV story said there were other people in the vehicle that got out and managed to run to safety. Mr. Cotlar couldn't get out in time, and was found deceased, just a few blocks away.
