Iowa Senator Joni Ernst revealed deep personal details in an explosive interview with Bloomberg, adding her voice to the #MeToo Movement by telling of a sexual assault against her at Iowa State University.

While she did not name her attacker in that incident, she also spoke up about alleged abuse she suffered during her difficult marriage and subsequent divorce from Gail Ernst.

The shocking details emerging this week have become public due to the release of a court filing that caused the affidavits to be inadvertently leaked.

According to the Bloomberg interview "a flurry of tabloid-style coverage of Ernst’s divorce has followed. She publicly addressed her accusation against her husband at a town hall meeting in Cedar Falls, Iowa on Wednesday."

“I am a survivor,” she said, according to The Muscatine Journal. “What I want people to understand is that I am the same person as I was last week. You just know more about what’s inside of me now.”

Sen. Ernst is up for re-election in 2020.
