Is Iowa about to soften it's position on pot possession?

With the majority of Americans now supporting the decriminalizing of marijuana, Iowa lawmakers might be slowly coming around. A new bill the Senate is considering would aim to lower the penalties on possession of small amounts of pot.

But don't hold your breath. And don't light up in celebration just yet. Iowa isn't getting THAT progressive.

According to CBS2 News the proposed legislation would only reduce penalties for first-time offenders caught possessing five grams or less of marijuana if it's their first offense.

Under current law, this could still get you up to 6 months jail time and a $1,000 fine.

The new Senate proposal would change that penalty to "no more than 30 days in jail and a fine of $625".

Not much of a break, but what more could we expect from this tortoise of a legislature.

Heck, by 2112, Iowans might be able to light up with impunity, and who know...you may even be allowed to inhale.
