Iowa Man Gets Arrested for Using Fireworks ‘Because This is America’

22-year-old Quinnlan R. O’Meara is making national headlines after being jailed for lighting off fireworks in Des Moines this week.

It all started with a noise complaint. At about 4 a.m. on July 3rd, police headed over to an apartment complex where they spotted O'Meara holding some fireworks. After explaining that fireworks were illegal, police confiscated them and gave him a warning that he would be arrested if he continued. Well, he continued, and once again, police were called about noise complaints. When they showed up, he was spotted “holding a firework in one hand and a lighter in the other.” Reports say he was planning to light off a roman candle from his porch. Needless to say, the officers made good on their word.

The main reason this story is making headlines is because of O'Meara's response to his arrest. He claimed that as soon as he's out of jail he plans to light off another firework, “with a blunt in his mouth because this is America.” When he was asked to take a preliminary breathalyzer test, he responded that he would take a, "preliminary go [expletive] yourself test.”

I was trying to think of a clever line to end this blog, but that last quote can't be topped. So we'll just end with that.
