A fourth-term legislator from central Iowa was arrested this morning in Ames, on two different charges. Chip Baltimore, on the right in the photograph, was pulled over at 5:41 this morning.

Baltimore, the chair of the Judiciary Committee, is in his fourth term at the State House. He was arrested and charged with first-offense OWI and possession of a firearm while under the influence. KCCI reports Baltimore was booked into the Story County Jail on a $2,000 bond. He was released at 11 this morning after he posted bond following his initial appearance in court.

Last year, Baltimore backed a bill that would've called for monitoring of people who had been convicted of multiple DUI charges. He told the Des Moines Register at that time:

Impaired driving is an issue that needs attention in Iowa. We've been trying to address this in the past few years without success. We're hopeful that we'll get something to the governor to sign this session.
