The website WalletHub recently did a study to figure out '2018’s Best & Worst States to Raise a Family.' They looked at 42 different "key indicators" to determine their list, including affordable housing, family salary, child care cost, and divorce rate, and I'm happy to report that Iowa made the top 10, coming in at number 8!

With a total score of 56.60, Iowa ranked 1st place for 'Most Affordable Housing,' 2nd place for 'Lowest Infant Mortality Rate,' and 4th place for 'Highest Median Family Salary.' In the overall categories, we didn't rank very high for 'Family Fun,' coming in at number 38, but we came in 5th place for 'Affordability,' so that's something!

Here are the five "best" states to raise a family in, according to the study:

  1. Massachusetts
  2. Minnesota
  3. New Hampshire
  4. North Dakota
  5. Vermont

On the other end, here are the "worst" states:

  1. New Mexico
  2. Mississippi
  3. Alabama
  4. West Virginia
  5. Louisiana
