Iowa is One of the Most Obese States in America

Holy obesity, Iowa. This is some alarming news. Iowa is the 4th highest state in the nation for percentage of obese residents. And we're far too close to the top spot.

Two non-profit organizations that work on health policy, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Trust for America's Health, have released the numbers for all 50 states and our guts are getting bigger. 2016 numbers showed five states had 35 of every 100 residents termed "obese" according to State of Obesity. This year, there are seven and Iowa ranks fourth.

Here are the five states with the highest percentage of individuals considered obese:

2. Mississippi (37.1)
3. Oklahoma (36.5)
4. Iowa (36.4)
5. Alabama (36.3)
6. Louisiana (36.2)
7. Arkansas (35.0)

The report states that not a single state saw a decline in its obesity rate from 2016 to 2017 and at least 20 percent of adults in every, single state are obese. Only Colorado, the District of Columbia, and Hawaii are below 25 percent.
