According to a new survey, Iowa is one of the top 10 states when it comes to public schools!

A new survey by WalletHub ranks all 50 states and D.C. on the quality of their school systems, and Iowa schools fared very well. The study looked at 21 key factors like funding, safety, class size, instructor credentials, and overall performance. Iowa broke the top 10, coming in at number 9. Out of 51 contenders, we ranked 9th in safety and 11th in quality. Iowa also had the #1 spot for 'lowest dropout rate,' and tied for 5th for 'highest median SAT score.' Not too shabby!

Here are the top 5 overall school systems in the country:

  1. Massachusetts
  2. New Jersey
  3. New Hampshire
  4. Wisconsin
  5. Vermont

On the other hand, here are the WORST school systems in the country:

  1. Louisiana
  2. New Mexico
  3. West Virginia
  4. D.C.
  5. Mississippi
